Britt Burson- Sidelines Magazine
Last fall, the Executive Editor of Sidelines Magazine reached out to ask if I would be available to photograph a feature they had planned. When she told me who it was, I was so excited—everyone loves Britt!
Britt is an international FEI dressage rider and trainer based near Chicago. I worked with her a couple of years ago when she modeled for Novella Equestrian and was immediately impressed by her calm, professional presence. I truly wish I lived closer, as I would love to take lessons from her.
We wanted to complete the session as soon as possible, but with the Midwest winter quickly approaching—and a new horse being imported (exciting!)—we had to reschedule a couple of times. I was nervous we might end up shooting in the snow, but we were fortunate to be given a beautiful autumn afternoon. The day called for plenty of sunshine, but as I was driving to the location, dark clouds rolled in. This had happened during a session the previous summer; toward the end, the sun broke through—and the same thing happened during Britt’s session, creating an unforgettable sunset silhouette.
Britt is photographed with her jet-black mare, Fiorenza (“Fia”), and her goofy yet extremely dashing gelding, Venturini (“Liam”), who was named the 2025 Adequan®/USDF Training Level Horse of the Year (Open division).
